Renault Kwid EV to rival Tata Tiago EV, MG Comet EV: Here’s a quick check

Recently, the updated all-electric Dacia Spring broke covers in Europe. While it may not be too relevant for the Indian market, the fact that it could be rebranded as the Renault Kwid EV in other international markets, makes it a very interesting proposition for India. In fact, the Renault Kwid on sale in India is a rehashed version of the petrol-powered Dacia Spring.

Renault had even showcased a concept of the Kwid EV back at the 2020 Auto Expo. So if the Dacia Spring EV makes its way to India, dressed as Renault Kwid EV, it will take on entry-level EVs such as Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV. Here’s a quick check as to how Renault Kwid EV will stack against its closest rivals.

Renault Kwid EV Vs rivals: Powertrain Specs

Kwid EV will feature a 26.8kWh Lithium-ion battery pack that offers a peal range of up to 230 km (WLTP) on a single charge. In comparison, Tiago EV and Comet EV get 24kWh and 17.3 kWh batteries that offer single-charge range up to 315 km and 230 km, respectively. All three cars are powered by a single-motor setup, however, the Comet EV is rear-wheel driven whereas the other two are front-wheel driven cars.

In terms of power output, Tiago EV is the most powerful at 74 bhp while Comet EV develops 41 bhp. On the other hand, Kwid EV churns out 64 bhp. The company also claims that the electric hatch can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in under 14 seconds. Kwid EV is also available with a smaller electric motor that produces 44 bhp.

Dacia Spring EV

Kwid EV is equipped as standard with a 7 kW AC charger that can charge the battery from 20% to 100% on a domestic outlet in less than 11 hours, or in just 4 hours on a 7 kW wall box. A 30 kW DC charger enables fast charging from 20% to 80% in 45 minutes. In comparison, Tiago EV is available with either a 3.2kW or a 7.2 kWh AC charger whereas Comet EV is only offered with a 3.3 kWh AC charger.

Renault Kwid EV Vs rivals: Features

Kwid EV will come equipped with features such as a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment display embedded with Media Nav Live multimedia system, wireless connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, all four power windows, etc. It misses out on automatic climate control which is offered in the Tiago EV. However, Kwid EV offers vehicle to Load functionality which isn’t offered in the other battery-powered cars.

Both Comet EV and Tiago EV offer plenty of connected features including smartwatch connectivity which isn’t the case with Kwid EV.
