The Volkswagen Group in India has issued a recall for over 47,000 vehicles over a seatbelt issue. The affected models include the Skoda Kushaq, Skoda Kylaq, Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Taigun, and the Volkswagen Virtus. The models in question were made between May 24, 2024 and April 1, 2025.

Skoda, Volkswagen recall — What is the reason?

A SIAM document states that 25,722 units of the Skoda Kylaq, Kushaq and Slavia are a part of this recall while the Volkswagen models account for a further 21,513 units. This brings the total number to 47,235 units combined. Also, all the vehicles under the recall are made-in-India models from Skoda Auto Volkswagen India.

The issue is with the rear seatbelt — in the event of a frontal crash, the rear seatbelt buckle latch plate may break or fail, and the webbing of the centre seatbelt assembly at the rear, along with the buckle of the rear right seatbelt may fail. This may pose a major safety issue to occupants at the rear.

As with any recall, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India will reach out to customers directly for the recall and fix the problem free of cost. That said, vehicle owners can also check if their vehicle is part of the recall by checking the official Skoda and Volkswagen websites and entering their vehicle VIN details.
