Hyundai Motor Group has revealed the sketches of the new Sonata on their official social media page. The new and updated Hyundai Sonata will be first launched in the international markets followed by its launch in India in 2018. The carmaker discontinued the Sonata in India in 2015 due to poor sales and the sedan is expected to be first showcased at the 2017 New York Auto Show in April 2017.

The recent sketches of the new Hyundai Sonata showcase its design language and styling which will follow the ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design philosophy. The company updated the sedan with a large hexagonal front grille which is likely to get the chrome outline. Other exterior changes will include new LED fog lamps which are now wider and placed differently on the front bumper. The LED headlamps will largely have the same silhouette and will get LED daytime running lamps, while the air intakes will get sharper. At the rear, Hyundai has revised the tail lamps, a rear spoiler mounted on the tailgate, rear diffuser and quad exhausts as well as a larger rear bumper.

The car manufacturer has not yet disclosed the engine options, but we expect it to be powered by both petrol and diesel units, unlike the discontinued version which came only with a petrol motor. The addition of a diesel engine would surely attract more buyers in a country like India. The company might also offer the new Hyundai Sonata with a 2.0 litre turbocharged motor that will produce around 260 hp of power. When launched in India, the new Sonata will be positioned above the Elantra in the company’s portfolio and is likely to be priced between Rs 19 lakh and Rs 23 lakh, ex-showroom. The sedan will compete with the Skoda Superb, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry in this segment.
