It is already well established that Mahindra is working on a new generation model of Bolero. The rugged body-on-frame SUV has been on sale for almost two and a half decades which has received sporadic updates over the years but never received any major upgrade. The new-gen Bolero is expected to break cover, most likely as a concept model, on August 15 this year.
The new-gen Bolero is expected to receive a brand new DNA which means different design, different features, and more importantly different underpinnings. Meanwhile, test mules of the new Bolero/Bolero Neo have already been spotted testing on more than a couple of occasions. Another set of spy images featuring the second-gen Bolero have gone viral.
New-gen Mahindra Bolero: Redesigned Exterior
As seen in the latest and previous spy shots, the new Bolero’s design will be a complete departure from the current model. The latest set of images highlights a revised front fascia featuring new circular headlights flanking a flat, multi-slatted front grille with Mahindra new Twin Peaks logo at the centre. The chunky front bumper houses separate turn indicators, a sleek rectangular vent for the air dam, and a tow hook.

The side profile highlights its boxy silhouette featuring a flat roofline, tall and upright pillars, a flat bonnet line, and a set of flared and squared wheel arches. A shoulder line running across the profile of the SUV is also visible and gives the re-designed Bolero a distinct visual character very different from its current namesake. Another interesting addition are the new flush-fitting door handles.
At the rear, previous spy images have suggested a flat, side-hinged rear tailgate with spare wheel mounted at the centre and vertical LED taillamps. This keeps Bolero’s utilitarian feel intact. The images also suggest new and larger alloy wheels employed and redesigned ORVMs.
New-gen Mahindra Bolero: Underpinnings & Powertrain
The next-generation Bolero will undergo a significant transformation beneath the surface. As reported last month, Mahindra is developing a new modular platform called the New Flexible Architecture (NFA), which will serve as the foundation for multiple upcoming models. Unlike the current Bolero’s traditional body-on-frame construction, the NFA adopts a modern monocoque design.
The NFA platform is scheduled to make its debut on August 15 this year, showcased through a new concept vehicle. This unveiling may also provide a first look at the next-generation Bolero in concept form. Despite its enduring popularity in Mahindra’s lineup—especially across Tier 3 cities and rural markets—the Bolero has faced criticism in urban areas due to its dated features and limited safety equipment.
Engineered to accommodate a variety of powertrains, the versatile NFA platform will support petrol, diesel, hybrid, and fully electric options, potentially paving the way for an all-electric Bolero in the future. Internally codenamed U171, the new Bolero is expected to launch sometime in 2026.
