AMTs have become a popular option in most segments, including SUVs. The latest to get an AMT gearbox is the Nissan Magnite, the carmaker’s only offering in India, which has seen success over the years, thanks to multiple editions of the vehicle.
The Nissan Magnite, however, is not alone in this segment, as there are SUVs from other carmakers who are also eyeing the throne of being best-sellers, making the Magnite AMT compete with the Hyundai Exter, Tata Punch, and the Renault Kiger. The Nissan Magnite AMT is priced at Rs 6.49 lakh onwards, ex-showroom and is available in a total of five trims including the limited Kuro edition. Prices for the Magnite range between Rs 6.49 lakh and Rs 8.89 lakh. The Magnite’s closest competitor is the Renault Kiger, which is offered in four AMT trims, priced between Rs 8.54 lakh and Rs 9.57 lakh.
The new Hyundai Exter is the carmaker’s entry-level SUV offering and the AMT version is priced between Rs 8.09 lakh and Rs 10.14 lakh, while being offered in a total of six variants. Finally, coming to the Tata Punch, the SUV is offered in a total of 13 AMT variants, priced between Rs 7.49 lakh and Rs 10.14 lakh ex-showroom.

Amongst the four SUVs, the Nissan Magnite is the most affordable AMT SUV, while the Exter and Punch are the most expensive. Also, the Punch being available in a total of 13 trims caters to a wider audience.
New Nissan Magnite AMT vs competition: Engine specifications
Diving straight in, the Magnite AMT is offered with the naturally-aspirated 1.0-litre petrol engine only, while the 1.0-litre turbo petrol gets a CVT gearbox. With the Renault Kiger, the AMT is offered with the naturally-aspirated petrol engine only.
With the Hyundai Exter, the AMT gearbox is offered with the 1.2-litre petrol engine, which is standard across the range, while the Tata Punch also gets a 1.2-litre petrol engine, again, standard across the range. Amongst the four SUVs, the Exter and Punch are available in CNG versions, however, they get a manual gearbox.

Looking at the specifications, the Tata Punch is the most powerful with a largest displacement, most power, and torque, while the Magnite and Kiger have identical specifications. The Hyundai Exter takes the sweet spot in between.
