MG Motor India recently slashed prices of its entire lineup. As a result, the brand’s entry-level model, Comet EV, became a lakh cheaper with prices starting at Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom). After the recent update, the Comet EV is now Rs 1.60 lakh more affordable than its closest competitor– Tata Tiago EV. Let us see how these two entry-level EVs stack against each other and which one offers better value for money.
MG Comet EV Vs Tata Tiago EV: Dimensions
Comet EV is evidently the smaller of the two. Tiago EV measures 3,769mm in length, 1,677mm in width, 1,536mm tall and has a 2,400mm wheelbase. On the other hand, the MG Comet measures 2,974mm in length, 1,505mm in width, 1,631mm tall and has a 2,010mm wheelbase.

While the ultra-compact dimensions surely has its advantages in bustling traffic on Indian roads, it has its limitations as well. For instance, Comet EV is strictly a four-seater, whereas Tiago EV is a five-seater. Moreover, the practicality of a pair of rear doors cannot be compared with the two-door setup offered in Comet EV.
MG Comet EV Vs Tata Tiago EV: Interior & Features
Comet EV definitely offers more premium cabin interiors than Tiago EV which feels a little basic and outdated. Feature list on Tiago include a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system by Harman, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay, auto climate control, a rearview camera with parking sensors, steering-mounted controls, multi-drive modes, cruise control, a cooled glovebox, powered boot opening, and over 45 connected car features. However, most of these amenities are limited to the top-end variants only.

Comet EV is equally well (or perhaps even better) equipped than Tiago EV. The tallboy electric hatch offers features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument console, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, keyless entry, a two-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls, over 55 connected car features, push pedal start, a digital key, etc.
MG Comet EV Vs Tata Tiago EV: Powertrain specs
Both Comet and the all-electric Tiago get a single motor, front-wheel drive setup. Tata Motors offers two battery options with Tiago— a 19.2 kWh unit returning 250 km range and a 24 kWh unit offering 314 km range (both MIDC). The former is paired with a motor churning out 60 bhp and 104 Nm of torque. While the latter sends energy to a motor kicking out 74 bhp and 114 Nm of torque.
| Specification | Comet EV | Tiago EV |
| Battery capacity | 17.3 kWh | 19.2 kWh / 24 kWh |
| Power | 42 bhp | 60 bhp / 74 bhp |
| Torque | 110 Nm | 110 Nm / 114 Nm |
| Charging time (AC) | Up to 7 hours | Up to 8.7 hours |
MG offers a single 17.3kWh battery pack providing an ARAI-certified driving range of 230 km. Power output of the electric motor paired with the battery pack is rated at 41 bhp and 110 Nm of torque. Therefore, Tiago EV not only offers better range, but also the higher output on paper.

Comet EV can be fully charged in 7 hours while the Tiago EV takes up to 8.7 hours. It’s worth noting that the MG Comet doesn’t support DC fast charging while the Tiago EV can be juiced up in just 58 minutes using a DC fast charger.
MG Comet EV Vs Tata Tiago EV: Price & Verdict
With the recent price reduction, the Comet EV is now even more competitively priced. Prices for the micro hatch start at Rs 6.98 lakh and go up to Rs 8.58 lakh. On the other hand, Tiago EV is priced from Rs 8.69 lakh to Rs 11.99 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). While both EVs are well equipped, there is a huge price gulf between the top-spec variants of both models.
| Models | Price (ex-showroom) |
| MG Comet EV | Rs 6.98 lakh – Rs 8.58 lakh |
| Tata Tiago EV | Rs 8.69 lakh – Rs 12.09 lakh |
To make it more clear, the top-spec Plush trim of Comet undercuts the mid-spec XT Medium Range variant of Tiago priced at Rs 9.34 lakh (ex-showroom) by Rs 76,000 and is far better equipped too. While on paper, Tiago EV offers more range and performance, the diminutive size of Comet EV might make more sense, especially for urban buyers.
