Maruti Suzuki has marked a significant milestone in India. First introduced in May 2005, the company is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Swift in the country. Since its inception, the Indo-Japanese carmaker has sold more than 30 lakh units of the hatchback in India. Currently in its fourth-generation, Swift has evolved quite a bit over the past two decades both in terms of form and function.
Maruti Swift: Evolution over generations
The Swift currently enjoys around 31 percent market share in its segment. Moreover, the hatchback contributes nearly 10 percent of Maruti Suzuki’s sales in India. The first-gen Swift was launched in 2005 followed by the second-gen model which launched in 2011. The third-gen Swift was launched in 2018 while the current fourth-gen Swift made its India debut last year. Each generation of the Swift has come with design and technology updates.

Commenting on the occasion, Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “The Swift is an icon in its own right. Celebrated by over 3 million customers in India alone, the Swift is an expression of fun and freedom. The Swift has set new benchmarks over the years with every new model, improving on the inherent ‘fun-to-drive’ DNA.”
