The Maruti Baleno RS derives its power from a new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, BoosterJet, that develops an impressive power output of 112bhp and 175Nm, which makes it more powerful than its closest rival – Volkswagen Polo GT TSI. The VW Polo GT TSI’s 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine develops 103bhp and 175Nm.
The Baleno RS is based on Suzuki’s new-generation platform that is claimed to lighter and stiffer than other existing Suzuki platforms. The same platform will also underpin the upcoming Suzuki Ignis that has also been revealed at the event. Maruti Suzuki India has also displayed the Baleno’s engine and platform at its pavilion and said that more future products from the company will feature these. The Maruti Baleno RS also gets sportier bumpers, chrome front-grille and few other cosmetic updates thus giving it a more aggressive look than the regular Baleno.
Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Limited Edition
The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross special edition, on the other hand, continues to feature the same Fiat-sourced 1.6-litre multijet diesel unit. This engine churns out a maximum power output of 118bhp and 320Nm. While there are no mechanical updates made to the crossover, it gets some cosmetic changes such as chrome back door garnish, rear-end spoiler in black paint finish, sporty pedal pad, ORVM garnish in matt black finish. The vehicle’s cabin also gets a styling kit that consists of foot well lamp with blue ligh and new carbon.
Other Maruti Suzuki cars on display at the Auto Expo are – Vitara Brezza sub-compact SUV and Ignis Crossover. While the Brezza has made its global debut in India, the Ignis has been showcased in India for the first time.
