Mahindra has expansive plans when it comes to electric vehicles (EVs) with its full-range of Born Electric vehicles showcased a couple of years back and geared up to launch in the coming few months. Besides the new Born Electric models which will be based on a skateboard EV architecture, Mahindra will continue to focus on affordable electric cars as well.

This will include the XUV400 and the upcoming XUV 3XO EV. Both battery-powered models will be based on the same platform as the erstwhile XUV300 and its successor the XUV 3XO which in turn are based on the Ssangyong Tivoli sold in South Korea. The upcoming XUV 3XO EV was recently spied testing in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu

Mahindra XUV 3XO EV: Exterior

The latest set of spy shots show a partially camouflaged test unit of the electric SUV which looks very familiar to current XUV 3XO in profile. While the front end is completely wrapped under camouflage, the rear end is out open revealing the exact same connected LED taillamp setup as the XUV 3XO along with the same branding at the centre of the tailgate. The images also reveal the charging flap located on the front left fender.

Like the 3XO, its battery-powered counterpart is likely to offer a stacked LED headlamp setup with a round fog lamp and sealed-off nose at the centre. Other visual highlights include machine-cut black alloy wheels, a golden-coloured roof, a shark fin antenna, and blacked-out pillars, roof rails, and plastic claddings on wheel arches and door sills.

Mahindra XUV 3XO EV: Interiors

The interiors of the XUV 3XO EV cabin looks identical to its fossil fueled sibling. The dual-tone theme comprises beige-coloured seat upholstery and lower half of the dashboard. The top-half of the dashboard is blacked-out with the biggest highlight being a 10.2-inch free-standing infotainment screen surrounded by piano black finish. A similar gloss black finish is offered around air con vents which feel a lot more premium.

The drive selector on the centre console gets copper accents. In terms of features, the XUV 3XO EV is set to offer 10.2-inch free-standing infotainment system, 10.2-inch instrument panel, ventilated front seats, LED interior lights, wireless charger, dual-zone climate control, automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, rear AC vents, and camera-based Level 2 ADAS.

Mahindra XUV 3XO EV: Expected powertrain

There is still uncertainty about the battery packs to be offered in the XUV 3XO. Currently, the XUV400 is offered in two battery options— 34.5 kWh and 39.4 kWh that promise an ARAI-rated range of 375 km and 456 km, respectively, on a single-charge range. Since it will be positioned below the XUV400, the 3XO is likely to get a slightly less powerful electric motor driving the front wheels.
