Mahindra has had a massive turnaround in the post Covid era with its new generation vehicles including Thar, XUV700, Scorpio N, XUV 3XO, and Thar Roxx. All these models have been instrumental in Mahindra’s massive rise in sales over the last 3-4 years. The homegrown carmaker has reportedly started developing facelifted models of Thar and XUV700.
According to Autocar India, Mahindra is readying updated versions of Thar and XUV700 which are expected to come out sometime in 2026. The Thar was launched in 2020 whereas the XUV700 made its debut in 2021. Therefore, mid-cycle updates for both SUVs are due aptly.
Mahindra Thar facelift: Expected changes
The report reveals that the upcoming 3-door Thar facelift, internally codenamed W515, will get mostly cosmetic updates in line with the more recent Thar Roxx, its five-door sibling. Hence, styling changes on the updated Thar will include a redesigned front grille with double-stacked slots, C-shaped LED elements in headlights and tail-lamps, redesigned front and rear bumpers , and new alloy wheels.

We can expect a few notable changes inside the cabin too. The most notable update is likely to be a new steering wheel borrowed from the 5–door Thar with revised button placement. A larger infotainment touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster and a sunroof for the hard-top variants are expected to be some other refinements in the equipment for the upcoming Thar facelift.
Mahindra XUV700 facelift: Expected changes
When it comes to the Mahindra XUV700 facelift, internally codenamed W616, the mid-size SUV will adopt more radical design updates in line with the new Electric Origin SUVs, most notably the XEV 9e and the upcoming XEV 8e. Hence, expect the updated XUV700 to flaunt visual highlights such as a connected LED headlight setup, redesigned front grille design, squared-off wheel arches with plastic claddings, and more.

The interiors of the XUV700 facelift are set to receive a sportier makeover. Although the current XUV700 is already feature-rich, the facelift may introduce several new additions. Safety is also expected to improve with an upgraded ADAS package.
Mahindra Thar facelift, XUV700 facelift: Powertrain
The powertrain options of both facelifted Mahindra Thar and XUV700 will most probably remain unchanged. The former will get three engine options: a 117 bhp 1.5-litre mHawk diesel, a 150 bhp 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol engine and a 130 bhp mHawk diesel engine. Transmission options for the latter two will include a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic whereas for the 1.5-litre oil burner will come mated exclusively to a 6-speed manual.
The same will be the case for the XUV700 facelift that will come with two engine options: 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 197 bhp and 380 Nm of peak torque or a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel mill developing 153 -183 bhp and 360-450 Nm of torque, depending on the variant. Both engines can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
