Mahindra’s best-selling SUV, the Scorpio N launched the Z8 Select variant which is the most affordable trim in its premium Z8 portfolio. The Z8 Select comes packed with both convenient and safety features. We take a closer look at how this new Scorpio N variant fares against the more premium Z8.
Mahindra Scorpio N Z8 Select vs Z8: Design
To give the Z8 Select an edge over other Scorpio N variants, Mahindra has introduced a brand new Midnight Black paint scheme, which is available in the XUV700. The Z8 Select is equipped with a sunroof, chrome finish front grille, LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs and LED tail lights, a set of 17-inch alloy wheels, LED projector fog lamps and LED indicators on the ORVMs.
What the Z8 Select misses out on are chrome finish door handles, auto headlamps, auto wipers and electrically retractable foldable ORVMs.Â

Mahindra has made no compromise when it comes to the cabin feeling premium as the Z8 Select has soft-touch materials. The new variants come with an 8-inch infotainment system, a 7-inch instrument cluster, Adrenox-connected tech with inbuilt Alexa, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a rear parking camera, multiple charging ports, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear lever.
The Z8 Select misses out on dual-zone climate control and ignition push start button.Â

Mahindra Scorpio N Z8 Select vs Z8: Safety
The new Scorpio N Z8 is packed with safety functions like six airbags, electronic stability control, hill descent control and hill hold control, ABS and EBD, parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat mounts and SOS call feature.
The only additional feature that the Z8 variant comes with is the tyre pressure monitor system.Â
Mahindra Scorpio N Z8 Select vs Z8: Engine Specs and Price
Both the Scorpio N Z8 Select and the Z8 variants are available in petrol and diesel powertrains and both are mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic torque converter. The 2-litre petrol produces 200bhp and the manual’s torque output is 370Nm and 380Nm in the case of the automatic. The 2.2-litre diesel engine belts out 172bhp with the MT having 370Nm and the automatic with 400Nm.
Everything comes down to brass tacks. The Scorpio N Z8 Select is priced from Rs 16.99 lakh to Rs 18.99 lakh while the Z8 starts from Rs 18.64 lakh to Rs 20.63 lakh, all ex-showroom prices. With a price difference of at least Rs 1.65 lakh, the Z8 Select seems to be the value-for-money Scorpio N. We have only mentioned the prices of Z8 4×2 variants as the Z8 Select isn’t available in 4×4 trim.
