Mahindra has issued a “service action” for owners of the Mahindra Scorpio-N. In other words, the Mahindra Scorpio-N is being recalled to replace the alternator pulley, re-torque the nut on the steering input shaft and fit an additional clip on the transmission wiring (for automatic transmission vehicles). In addition to this recall, the service centre is also doing two software flashes – for the SRS ECU and the EMS ECU.
The service action is free of cost to owners and can be availed at the nearest service centre. The company is actively reaching out to customers who are eligible for the recall. However, the company’s website link (auto.mahindra.com/service-action) does not show any service action due when one enters the vehicle’s VIN (vehicle identification number), so it’s better to check with the service centre directly.
Why is the Mahindra Scorpio-N being recalled?
Vehicle manufacturers are constantly improving the reliability and safety of their vehicles even after launch. As part of this process, when possible failures are identified in vehicles running in real-world conditions, improved parts are developed and companies actively recall vehicles to retrofit parts. The Mahindra Scorpio-N was launched in June 2022 and an updated version was released in April 2023, which had minor improvements.
The current recall pertains to model-year 2023 vehicles. The alternator pulley design has been improved to reduce stress on the engine belt, improving its reliability, and prevent early wear and tear on the belt. The second service action is to re-torque the nuts on the i-shaft of the steering column assembly, where some customers had complained of noise and vibration. The transmission wiring harness clip service action is to secure the wiring harness and tuck it out of harm’s way. All these fixes take less than a couple of hours and can be done along with routine service or as a standalone action. Either way, one has to book an appointment at the service centre either through the “Mahindra for you” app (formerly “With you Hamesha) or by calling the service centre directly.

The software updates pertain to the airbag assembly (SRS ECU – supplementary restraint system electronic control unit) and the engine management system (EMS ECU). As pollution control norms for cars become increasingly stringent, manufacturers have been switching to complex electronic systems to ensure their emissions are cleaner and cleaner with each stage (currently BS6.2 or Euro 6).
Earlier active recalls for the Mahindra Scorpio-N included 6,618 units of the vehicle equipped with a manual transmission, manufactured between July and November 2022. These were recalled to inspect and replace a rubber bellow inside the clutch bell housing of these vehicles.
