Can a Mahindra make it as a safety car for a major motorsport at a global level?

Mahindra launched their first two Electric Origin range of SUVs— XEV 9e and BE 6— late last year, both SUVs welcomed with largely positive reviews. While the former was praised for its comfortable ride quality and overall impressive packaging, the BE 6 was commended for its superior handling capabilities, given it runs on a battery.

The coupe electric SUV has once again showcased its impressive dynamics, this time on a track. Mahindra has shared images and videos from a recent activity where the BE 6 was seen gunning on a race track. This activity was conducted in collaboration with Mahindra Racing, the company’s motorsport division, during the London E-Prix 2025, titled “Unlimit Performance”.

Mahindra BE 6 next safety car at Formula-E?

Although not official, we wonder if the Mahindra BE 6 was being tested for the next safety car London Formula E. Bruno Correia, the FIA’s official safety car driver, carried out the routine FIA safety inspections before the BE 6 took to the track. Mahindra reserve driver Jordan King then logged five quick laps of the London circuit on each race day, completing a total of ten laps over the weekend.

More importantly, the prototype seen in the images was a regular production-spec unit with no functional modifications apart from the special promotional decals seen on the body and windshield. The EV looks its usual sharp and agile on track as seen in the video. Formula E has traditionally used electric or hybrid models as safety cars, including the BMW i8, MINI Electric, and Porsche Taycan.

Mahindra BE 6: Battery & Motor specs

Based on the Mahindra in-house developed INGLO platform in collaboration with Volkswagen, the BE 6 gets two battery options: 59 kWh and 79 kWh. Both options are paired with a single motor driving the rear wheels, offering a peak range of 557 km and 682 km, respectively on a single charge. The former kicks out 228 bhp and 380 Nm of peak torque. The latter, on the other hand, pumps out 281 bhp.

As for performance, the more powerful variant of BE 6 with a larger battery pack can do a 0-100 kmph sprint in 6.7 seconds. Using a 175 kWh DC fast charger, the 79 kWh battery can be charged from 0 to 80 percent in just 20 minutes.
