Kia Syros is the latest compact SUV to earn a 5-star safety rating from the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP). Under the crash norms, the Syros secured a 5-star rating for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP). We compare the new Kia vehicle against one of the most popular SUVs in the segment, the Tata Nexon and find out which is a safer bet.Â
Kia Syros vs Tata Nexon: Adult Occupant Protection
The turbo petrol Kia Syros underwent Bharat NCAP safety testing, becoming the first made-in-India Kia vehicle to secure a 5-star rating. The two variants tested were — HTK (O) with a 6-speed manual and HTX Plus with a 7-speed DCT automatic. Both SUVs are powered by the 118 bhp 1-litre GDi turbocharged petrol engine with 172 Nm of torque.Â

The Syros scored 30.21 out of 32 in adult occupant protection It earned 14.21 out of 16.00 in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test and 16.00 out of 16.00 in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test.
The Tata Nexon is the first compact SUV in India to break the safety hackles and score a perfect 5-star safety rating at Bharat NCAP. It earned 29.41 out of 32.00 in Adult Occupant Protection. The Nexon further achieved 14.65 out of 16.00 in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test and 14.76 out of 16.00 in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test.
Kia Syros vs Tata Nexon: Child Occupant Protection
Being a family-oriented SUV, the Kia has given extra attention to child safety as it is managed 44.42 out of 49.00 in Child Occupant Protection. Hence, the Syros scored 23.42 points out of 24 in the dynamic test, 10 points out of 12 in CRS installation, and 9 points out of 13 in vehicle assessment. The test further revealed that an 18-month-old dummy scored 7.58 out of 8 for dynamic front score and 4 out of 4 for dynamic side score. In the case of a 3-year-old dummy, it scored 7.84 out of 8 in front and 4 out of 4 in the side.

The Tata Nexon scored 43.83 out of 49.00 in the Bharat NCAP Child Occupant Protection test. The compact SUV earned 23.42 out of 24 in the dynamic test, a perfect 12 out of 12 in CRS installation, and 9 out of 13 in vehicle assessment. For an 18-month-old dummy, it achieved 7 out of 8 in the dynamic front score and 4 out of 4 in the dynamic side score. For a 3-year-old dummy, it scored 7.83 out of 8 in the front and 4 out of 4 in the side.
