It recently came to light that Kia’s upcoming compact SUV will be called ‘Syros’ and not ‘Clavis’ as it was previously speculated. The development was confirmed by Kia by releasing a short teaser on its social media handles and YouTube channel. The South Korean carmaker has released yet another teaser of the Syros.

As mentioned earlier, Syros will be positioned above Sonet and below Seltos and like all Kia models, it will pack a host of the premium features. Hence, Kia will kickstart a whole new segment of SUVs/crossovers with the Syros slotted between the sub-4 metre and mid-size SUV models.

Although the short teaser video shows a partial glimpse of the vehicle at the end, on a closer glance we find out about a key feature of the Syros. Kia Syros will come equipped with a panoramic sunroof which can be seen in the teaser video. The other major highlight noticed in the latest teaser are new vertically-stacked, tri-LED projected headlamps flanked by L-shaped LED DRL which should lend the Syros a brand new appearance.

Kia Syros: Expected design

In all likelihood, the upcoming Kia SUV will draw parallels with the Kia EV9 which was launched in the country as a CBU recently last month. The Syros is expected to flaunt a completely reworked Tiger Nose grille which will give the Syros a fresh look. As previously teased, the Kia Syros adopts a bold, boxy design language.

The Kia Syros’s muscular stance, despite its compact dimensions, is accentuated by tall pillars, a flat roofline, and squarish, flared-up wheel arches. Sharp cuts, creases, and a clamshell bonnet further enhance its aggressive appearance. The rear profile is characterized by distinctive L-shaped LED taillights integrated into the D-pillars, a flat tailgate, and rear bumper reflectors. Functional roof rails add to its utilitarian appeal. To complete the sporty look, Kia will equip the Syros with dual-tone machine-cut alloy wheels.

Kia Syros: Expected powertrain

Although specific powertrain details for the Kia Syros have yet to be confirmed, it is highly probable that the SUV will share engine and transmission options with the Sonet. Potential engine options include a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, and a 1.5-liter diesel engine. Transmission choices may range from a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, 6-speed AMT, and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
