Jeep India has finally launched the Compass in the country at a starting price of Rs 14.95 lakh, ex-showroom for the base petrol and Rs 20.65 lakh, ex-showroom for the top-end Limited 4X4 diesel version. The new Jeep Compass is available in three variants, namely; Sport, Longitude and the Limited. The SUV is powered by a 1.4 litre Multiair petrol engine that produces 160 hp of power and 250 Nm of torque. The diesel variants get a 2.0 litre Multijet II unit with 171 hp of power and 350 Nm of peak torque. The engines are paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, while the higher Compass Limited petrol variant gets an automatic 7-speed Dual Dry Clutch Transmission (DDCT).
The car is 4,395 mm in length, 1,818 mm in width, 1,640 mm in height and has 2,636 mm of wheelbase. The SUV has a fuel tank capacity of 60 litres and delivers an ARAI rated fuel efficiency of 17.1 kmpl for the 4×2 variants and 16.3 kmpl for the 4×4 diesel variant. The new Compass gets projector headlamps with chrome lining as well as LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs), LED tail lamps and 16-inch steel wheels on the lower variants and 17-inch alloy wheels on top versions.
The interior of the Jeep Compass features Uconnect 5-inch touchscreen display, while the top version gets a 7-inch screen with integrated voice command, auto AC controls, Bluetooth Audio Streaming and other connectivity options. The lower variants get safety features like dual front airbags, ABS (Antilock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), hill start assist, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), traction control system and EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) to name a few. In addition to these, the Compass Limited gets side airbags, cornering fog lamps, Selec-Terrain with four driving modes – Auto, Snow, Sand and Mud, for on or off roading purpose.
