Recently, the Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group (HMG), Euisun Chung, visited India to review mid- to long-term future mobility strategies for the country. During the recent town hall meeting with the Executive Chair held on April 23, a lot of things were discussed and revealed for both brands under HMG in India– Hyundai and Kia.
The most significant of them was the production of Hyundai’s first localised electric vehicle (EV) in India. Outlining the EV strategy for the Indian market, Hyundai confirmed that the first localised EV will go into production by the end of 2024. This indicates a possible market launch in early 2025.
Hyundai Creta EV launch
From what we know so far, Hyundai’s first mass-market EV for India will most likely be Creta EV. If we had to co-relate, then it seems that the Creta EV is on track for an early next year launch. The all-electric version of Creta has been spied on numerous occasions over the past few months.

Through recent spy images, we get a sneak peek inside the Creta EV’s cabin. From the looks of it, the layout is similar to the ICE-powered Creta. It is expected to receive a similar twin-screen setup— a touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument console.
The all-electric Creta gets the same two-spoke steering with multiple control buttons but one distinct feature noticed is the drive selector mounted on the steering column. That said, most of the dashboard was under wraps and details can only be confirmed once we get a proper view of the same.
Hyundai Creta EV expected specs
Previous media reports have suggested Creta EV is likely to feature a 45kWh Lithium-ion battery pack which is slightly smaller than the ones used by its primary rivals. For instance, MG ZS EV gets a 50.3kWh battery. On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki eVX is expected to offer two battery options– an entry-level 48kWh variant and a top-spec 60kWh unit.

Battery specs | 45 kWh | 50.3 kWh | 48 kWh (lower-spec)60 kWh (higher-spec) |
It was revealed earlier that the Creta EV will share the electric motor as the latest-gen, entry-level Kona Electric on sale overseas. This means it will be powered by a single-motor setup driving the front wheels and delivering 136 bhp and 255 Nm of torque. Unlike the eVX, Creta EV is expected to be based on the same platform as its ICE-powered sibling.
