It’s official. North India is in the grip of a severe heatwave, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting temperatures soaring up to 45°C. Scorching heat and humidity are expected to persist across Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Ladakh, Muzaffarabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Madhya Pradesh.
Air condition servicing
The first line of defence is the air conditioning in the car, which ensures a cool cabin. To make sure the AC is in top-notch running condition, it needs regular and thorough servicing. If it’s not serviced at the right time then it takes an added toll on the engine, which in turn eats into the car’s fuel economy. One common mistake many make when they step inside the car, they switch on the AC and wait for it to cool down the cabin. Here’s a simple hack, roll down the window so that heat escapes and it naturally cools down.
Check tyre pressure
We all are guilty of taking the tyres for granted and how crucial they are as it is the first contact on the road for the car. There’s a very good chance and eight out of ten car owners are clueless over ideal tyre air pressure, which is clearly written in the car instruction manual. The thumb rule is to increase it by 1-2 PSI ((pounds per square inch) every 10 degrees Celsius. Keep in mind, not to the tyre pressure just after driving the car as the gauge will read out higher numbers.
Importance of coolant
The coolant’s main function is to keep the temperature of the engine low during excessive temperatures. By circulating through the engine, it keeps control over the temperature and avoids overheating. This also lets the engine perform effortlessly without any additional strain. Low coolant also affects the effectiveness of the air conditioner.
Battery maintenance
High temperatures strain car batteries by speeding up chemical reactions, causing faster power drain and fluid evaporation—often leading to failure. To ensure reliable performance, especially in hot weather, regular maintenance is key. Keep the battery cool, avoid overcharging, and follow smart charging habits to extend its lifespan and prevent unexpected breakdowns.
