The much-awaited entry-level small car from Nissan’s low-cost car brand – the Datsun RediGO – will make its global debut in India on April 14, 2016. And as we said earlier, the small hatchback will be launched in May 2016.

The new hatchback version will take its design inspiration from the rediGO concept that had made its debut at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. Upon its launch, this will become the most affordable Datsun car in India.

The rediGO will be built upon Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-A platform which is the same that underpins the Renault Kwid. This platform was jointly developed by Nissan and Renault. The rediGO will also feature the same 0.8-litre petrol engine that does duty in the Renault Kwid. Though the Datsun’s small car will share its platform and engine with the Kwid, it will have an all-new design language that the company had previewed on the concept.

With raised shoulder line, high ground clearance, big wheel arches and black plastic cladding around the body, the Datsun rediGO looks like a mini crossover. Though there is no official word on its pricing, the upcoming small car from Datsun will be priced as aggressive as the Renault Kwid.

Besides the Datsun rediGO, the company is also working on subcompact SUV – Datsun Go-Cross – concept of which was put on display at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. Though the compact SUV might not enter production before 2017.
