Ahead of its global debut on April 14, 2016, the official sketch images of the Datsun redi-GO have been released today. The new images give a clear idea of how the final product will look. With hexagonal grille, sweptback headlamps, high ground clearance and roof rails, the production-ready version of the Datsun redi-GO looks more or less similar to the original concept that had made its debut at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo.
Soon-to-be the most affordable Datsun car in India, the redi-GO is built on Nissan–Renault alliance’s CMF-A platform. The same platform also underpins the Renault Kwid. Besides the platform, the redi-GO will also borrow its engine from the Kwid i.e. 0.8-litre petrol. This engine churns out 53bhp and 74Nm with the Kwid, though Datsun might tune it for extra power. The vehicle might in fact get a 1.0-litre diesel powertrain, but at a later stage.
To be positioned below the Datsun GO, the new small car might be priced quite aggressively to attract first time car buyers. While the global debut is scheduled for this month, the launch might take place by mid this year. The Datsun redi-GO will take on the likes of Maruti Alto 800, Hyundai, Tata Nano and Renault Kwid.
