Datsun’s most affordable offering – the redi-GO – will be launched in the Indian market in June 2016 and the official bookings will commence from May 2016. Though some Datsun dealers have already started taking pre-orders for the car. If reports are to be believed, the vehicle has already grabbed over 150 bookings in Mumbai alone despite the unavailability of a demo model at showrooms. This clearly shows the kind of buzz Datsun’s new small car has been able to create.
Though the company hasn’t officially revealed its prices yet, the Datsun redi-GO is expected to undercut all three of its rivals – Renault Kwid, Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon. Currently, the Renault Kwid is the most affordable offering priced between Rs 2.60 lakh – Rs 3.70 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

For people not in the know, Datsun redi-GO is based on the CMF-A platform which has been jointly developed by Nissan and Renault. The same platform is also used for the Renault Kwid. Besides the platform, both the cars also share the 0.8-litre, 3-cylinder engine. Having said that, both the vehicles look completely different from each other.
While there will be only a 0.8-litre petrol-engine model on offer initially, the company might bring in a 1000cc petrol model of the Datsun redi-GO at a later stage. The 1.0-litre engine will be the same that will power Renault Kwid’s upcoming 1000cc & AMT variants.
