Bye Tesla: NBA legend Shaq dumps Cybertruck for Cadillac Escalade EV

Tesla’s sales have declined over the past one year. Reports of vandalism of showrooms and properties across North America and Europe don’t help the company’s case either.

NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, popularly known as Shaq, once vouched strongly for Tesla saying that the Cybertrucks are the future. Hence, he owned three of them. However, now Shaq is believed to have had a change of heart.

In a recent podcast, Shaq revealed that he has sold two of his three Tesla trucks. On “The Big Podcast” Shaq is heard saying, “They just don’t give me enough distance for the amount of energy they use”, suggesting that the Cybertruck offers very less range in the real world in comparison to what is claimed.

As he explained, Shaq revealed that he sold two of his Cybertrucks.  Shaq told the guest he owns a customized Cybertruck with a drop-top feature which came to his home last year. Shaq, however, did not reveal how much he had to pay for his Cybertrucks. So does this mean the NBA legend isn’t hooked on electric vehicles anymore? Not exactly.

Shaq has reportedly added a Cadillac Escalade IQ to his garage which, according to him, offers better range. The Cadillac IQ offers a longer range on a single charge than the Tesla Cybertruck, with an estimated 748 km per charge compared to the Cybertruck’s 512 km, according to their respective manufacturers.

“Then I just got one of those IQs system Escalades today, I was in Vegas, I ain’t have to charge up for four days. My Cybertruck here, if I go downtown to work tonight and come back, I’m gonna be struggling to get back. Right now it says 267. If I go to Atlanta to the thing and come back, when I come back it ain’t going to be…” Shaq said in the podcast.

With an estimated net worth of half a billion dollars, Shaq revealed that in March he completely forgot buying his IQ, a $150,000 luxury EV. The timing of this news couldn’t be more worrisome for Tesla and its CEO — Elon Musk — who have been on the firing line for the last couple of months. Tesla showrooms and properties have been vandalised by activists who have accused Musk for his association with extreme right wing groups.
