The luxury electric vehicle (EV) space is booming in India with BMW commanding over 50% of market share in this segment. The German marque intends to expand this space by adding more EVs in its lineup. The company currently offers three EVs in India including the i4 sedan, the iX SUV and the i7 limousine.
As per recent social media post, BMW is likely to launch the iX1 electric SUV in India next month. The post suggests that the upcoming luxury electric SUV is expected to be priced between Rs 60-65 lakh (ex-showroom). This will make it the most affordable EV from BWM in India, upon its launch.
BMW iX1: Based on X1
BMW iX1 will be based on the third generation ICE-powered X1 which was launched in India earlier this year. Unlike its fossil-fueled sibling which is locally assembled in India, the upcoming iX1 is expected to be brought as a fully imported model under the CBU route, at least initially.
Overall, the exterior design of iX1 will remain similar to the X1 barring some noticeable changes including a sealed-off nose with the signature BMW twin-kidney faux grille, redesigned LED headlights, and new alloy wheels. Further, the addition of blue accents across the exterior signifies its electric nature.
BMW iX1: Battery, range, motor specs
The report suggests that the India-spec BMW iX1 is expected to come as a single fully-loaded xDrive30m variant with a FWD setup. The single motor setup draws energy from a 64.78 kWh lithium-ion battery, offering a range of up to 475 km on a single charge. The motor is reportedly good enough to churn out a peak output of 201 bhp and 250 Nm torque.
The German brand will offer a 11kW AC charger as standard with the iX1 which takes 6.5 hours to completely recharge the battery from 0 to 100 percent. The battery supports DC fast charging up to 130kW that rejuvenates the battery from 10 to 80 percent in just 29 minutes. As for performance, BMW iX1 could sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 8.6 seconds.
In terms of features, BMW iX1 will offer features like a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a two-zone climate control, BMW Matrix LED headlights, etc. More details regarding the iX1 are expected when it nears market launch.
