After much speculation, Tesla has hinted that the updated version of its premium electric vehicles, the Model S and the Model X could be launched in 2025.
Speaking on the Ride the Lightning podcast, Lars Moravy, Vice President of Vehicle Engineering, was asked when the updates for Model S and Model X can be expected. He replied, “Just give it a minute, we’ll get there.” True to Tesla’s style, Moravy kept the excitement alive by teasing customers and the EV market, without confirming any launch dates for the two flagship models.
Tesla Model S and Model X: Updates
Tesla has kept the details of the updates of Model S and Model X under wraps. Given that both the electric vehicles received a comprehensive update in 2021, this time the updates could be more focused on software enhancements.

Tesla is expected to throw some surprises with the two EVs like introducing a 48-volt electrical architecture that reduces the weight and improves efficiency with lesser wirings. The Elon Musk-lead company may introduce an 800-volt battery architecture that will enable Model S and Model X to support faster charging options.
The Cybertruck uses the Ethernet-based communication system, which replaces the traditional wring setup to provide faster data transfer speeds. It also introduced steer-by-wire technology that eliminates the traditional mechanical link between the steering wheel and the steering rack actuator. By using sensors, the steering column sends signals to the steering rack, offering improved steering configurations and enhanced vehicle control. Additionally, the Cybertruck includes rear-wheel steering with a turn angle of up to 10 degrees, enhancing manoeuvrability.
Upcoming Tesla Roadster
Moravy briefly mentioned about the ongoing tests on the upcoming second-generation Roadster. He said that it exceeded that company’s expectations though these are initial stages. He said, “What we had come up with exceeded what we originally planned,” he said. He added that Musk encouraged the team to set a new benchmark going more and achieve one step further.
