JSW MG has been on a roll in the electric vehicle segment, but now it has switched its attention to the mid-size SUV segment by updating the Astor. It was the first SUV in its category to offer Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System. The 2025 model goes up against the popular and well equipped Kia Seltos. We take a look at how it stacks up against the competition.

The updated Astor is available in five variants — Sprint, Shine, Select, Sharp Pro and Savvy Pro. MG Motor has aggressively priced the Astor starting from Rs 10 lakh, ex-showroom. The Seltos, on the other hand, is priced over a lakh and starts from Rs 11.13 lakh, ex-showroom. The Kia SUV has over 20 variants.

2025 MG Astor vs Kia Seltos comparison: Engines
The Astor offers two engine options — a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.3-litre turbo petrol. The former churns out 108 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 144 Nm at 4,400 rpm and is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission. The more powerful turbo produces 138 bhp at 5,600 rpm and 220 Nm at 3,600 rpm.Â
Kia offers a range of powertrain options — the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5-litre turbo petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel. The NA makes 113 bhp and 144 Nm with a 6-speed manual or a CVT. The turbo makes 158 bhp and 253 Nm mated to either a clutchless 6-speed or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. Kia continues to offer a diesel option which produces 114 bhp and 250 Nm with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic torque converter.

The Astor and Seltos come packed with a long list of features. Both SUVs are equipped with Level 2 ADAS, 6 airbags, hill hold and hill descent control, tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic parking brake and a 360-degree camera. The Seltos additionally offers front and rear parking sensors, a dash camera and a head-up display. The Astor has a 10.1-inch infotainment system and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 6-speaker music system and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Seltos comes with a 10.25-inch infotainment with Bose music system, a 10.25-inch driver’s console, wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, bigger 18-inch alloy wheels, a dual-zone climate control, paddle shifters and a head-up display. Both the SUV offers a panoramic sunroof and front-ventilated seats.
What will surprise many is that the Astor is not only a more affordable option, but also mid-range variants are fairly well equipped. There’s no compromise for the price you pay for the MG SUV. The Seltos takes the quality level higher and offers a premium experience.
