New-gen Jeep Compass in development
Jeep first introduced the Compass back in 2007 and got a generation upgrade in 2016. It landed in India in 2017 when the first unit of the mid-size SUV rolled out of Fiat’s production facility in Ranjangaon near Pune, Maharashtra. Besides India, Compass is manufactured at Melfi in Italy, Pernambuco in Brazil and Toluca in Mexico.
Reports suggest that Jeep is currently developing a new generation model of Compass. This new iteration will be based on the new STLA Medium architecture, developed by Stellantis, Jeep’s parent company. This platform is compatible with ICE, hybrid, and fully-electric powertrains. The new-gen Compass will also receive a fully-electric derivative in selected international markets.
In India, Jeep offers Compass with a 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine which kicks out 168 bhp and 400 Nm of peak torque. This engine is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic transmission. The latter also gets an optional 4WD setup. It is currently priced between Rs 20.49 lakh and Rs 32.07 lakh (ex-showroom).
