India and Yamaha have always had a hit-and-miss connection when it came to big bikes, as the Japanese brand once sold multiple big bikes in India. Later, Yamaha pulled out the entire lineup and tried again, and this time, Yamaha has decided to bring back its larger displacement motorcycle portfolio to India again. The company is planning to launch the R7 in India later this year and here’s what you should know.

Yamaha YZF-R7 India launch: What’s the motorcycle about?

The Yamaha YZF-R7 is one of the newest motorcycles in Yamaha’s lineup and is based on the extremely successful Yamaha MT-07 street naked. The R7 gets a full fairing and design borrowed from the larger motorcycles in the series, the R1 and R9. The motorcycle is based on a diamond frame and tips the scale at 188kg with oil and a full tank of gas.

The motorcycle is suspended by fully adjustable 41mm USD forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. The R7 runs on 17-inch wheels, gets radial callipers up front, disc brakes at both ends, dual-channel ABS, and clip-on bars to give the rider a well tucked-in position.

Powering the Yamaha R7 is the same engine that does its duty on the MT-07, a 689cc, liquid-cooled twin-cylinder, CP2 engine that makes 73bhp and 67Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a quickshifter. When launched in India later this year, the R7 will compete with the Honda CBR650R, Kawasaki Ninja 650, and the Triumph Daytona 660.
