Maxi scooters are considered one of the most premium segments in the two-wheeler market. While the Indian market is yet to warm up to the idea of proper Maxi scooters, many scooters with a Maxi-like styling have made inroads into the Indian two-wheeler market.

The most prominent models popping up in our minds are Suzuki Burgman Street, Aprilia SXR 125, SXR 160, Yamaha Aerox 155. Other models like Keeway Vieste 300 and BMW C400 GT fit a lot closer to the Maxi scooter definition. We can potentially add Yamaha TMax to this list in the coming few months.

Yamaha TMax spied in India

Yamaha is planning to increase the strength of its multi-cylinder lineup in India and will be launching the R3 and MT-03 in the country in December this year. The Japanese brand could also extend the multi-cylinder lineup with the TMax next. The Maxi scooter was recently spied testing in India. A spy image of the same was shared by automotive vlogger Bunny Punia on his social media handle.

The TMax is Yamaha’s flagship scooter offering, slotted above the 300cc parallel-twin powering XMax. It is powered by a 562cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled DOHC 4-valve engine churning out around 47 bhp at 7,500 rpm and a peak torque of 56 Nm at 5,250 rpm. The engine gets a 360-degree crank and is paired with a CVT automatic gearbox.

Based on a motorcycle-type die-cast aluminium chassis with a twin-spar layout, the TMax sits on gold-anodised upside down front forks with 120mm travel and a swingarm-mounted rear mono-shock with 117mm travel. The scooter rolls on 15-inch alloy wheels shod with 120/70 and 160/60 rubbers at front and rear, respectively.

Yamaha TMax India launch likely?

Given that Yamaha is testing the TMax in India, strongly suggest that the company has some plans with the TMax in India. If Yamaha does decide to launch the TMax in our country, it is most likely to be a fully imported model brought via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route. This means it will be priced at a premium.

Currently, Yamaha has priced the TMax in the United Kingdom at £ 13,807 which is equivalent to INR 14.00 lakh. When launched in India, it is expected to carry a price tag of around Rs 20.00 lakh (ex-showroom).
