After rolling out in Bengaluru yesterday, Ahmedabad-based Matter Motor Works has finally started dispatching the Aera electric bike across the country. Matter Aera is the world’s first HyperShift geared electric motorcycle. Over the next 45 days, Matter will roll out the Aera in Pune, Delhi, Chennai, Coimbatore, Mumbai, Jaipur, Surat, and Rajkot.
Bookings for the electric motorcycle are now open on Matter’s official website. In addition, the motorcycle will also be available on sale through e-commerce site Flipkart. The first set of buyers will benefit from early bird offers from the company. Matter has established experience hubs in each of the centres mentioned above which buyers can take test rides.
Commenting on the launch, Mohal Lalbhai, Founder & CEO, MATTER, said, “Bengaluru’s response was nothing short of phenomenal. With this next wave of city launches, we’re making AERA accessible to riders across India — delivering a product that’s not just high-tech, but deeply relevant to Indian roads and aspirations. Bookings are open — the future of riding is one click away.”
Matter Aera highlights
Matter Aera introduces several pioneering features, including the world’s first Hypershift Manual Gearbox—a 4-speed manual transmission integrated with three ride modes, offering twelve distinct riding configurations. Designed for urban environments, the liquid-cooled powertrain enhances thermal efficiency, particularly in high-temperature and congested traffic conditions. A 7-inch smart touchscreen dashboard provides centralized access to navigation, music, ride analytics, and over-the-air software updates.
The vehicle is powered by a 5kWh high-energy battery with an IP67 rating and a certified range of up to 172 km under IDC standards. It achieves rapid acceleration, reaching 0 to 40 kmph in under 2.8 seconds. Safety and ride quality are prioritized through features such as dual disc brakes with ABS, dual suspension systems, and smart park assist. An onboard charger allows for convenient charging using a standard 5A socket.
Digital integration is further enhanced via the MATTER Verse App, which supports remote locking, geo-fencing, real-time vehicle data, and ride customization. A keyless smart key system streamlines user access, while the vehicle’s operating cost remains economical at approximately Rs 0.25 per kilometre—offering potential savings of over Rs 1 lakh across three years of use.
