Two-wheeler domestic sales in August 2024 accounted for 17,11,662 units, witnessing a 9.3 percent YoY growth compared to August 2023, when the segment saw sales of 15,66,594 units. Amongst two-wheeler sales, scooter sales accounted for 6,06,250 units, while motorcycle sales accounted for 10,60,866 units.
Honda gets closer to Hero sales
When looking at brands, Hero Motocorp leads sales in August 2024, selling a total of 4,92,263 two-wheelers in the domestic market, while its closer rival, Honda, is catching up with Hero, having registered sales of 4,91,678 units. Both companies witnessed a YoY growth of 4 percent and 8.9 percent respectively.
TVS comes in third, having registered domestic sales of 2,89,073 units in August 2024, while Bajaj follows, having sold 2,08,621 units last month. Suzuki again dominates Royal Enfield to round up the top five in August, with sales accounting for 87,480 units for the Japanese manufacturer.
With new launches from TVS and Hero – Jupiter 110 and Destini 125 – sales are expected to pick up in the coming days, while other manufacturers such as Honda are gearing up for an all-electric version of its best-seller, the Activa. TVS is also expected to launch the updated RR 310 in the coming days.
