Like the rest of the Triumph 400 models, the upcoming Thruxton 400 will also be manufactured by Bajaj Auto in Chakan, Maharashtra.

After a roadster and a scrambler, Triumph is working on the third 400cc model (fourth, if you count the Speed T4 as a separate model) for the Indian market which will be a cafe racer. More likely to borrow the “Thruxton” nameplate, this motorcycle was recently spotted testing on Indian roads.

Previously, test mules of the Thruxton 400 were spied on a couple of occasions on foreign soil. Now, another test mule of the Thruxton 400 has been spotted on Indian roads. Like the previous images, the latest spy shot reveals an uncamouflaged prototype wrapped in a black shade.

The most distinct visual highlight of the motorcycle is the faired body up front with an integrated front apron and windscreen. Although not visible in the images, a round headlamp seems to be nestled within the front apron. This front end of the bike will be reminiscent of cafe racers from the 1960s which were inspired by fighter jets back then. The remainder of the bike remains visually similar to the Speed 400.

This includes a floating tail section with a single-piece seat with ribbed pattern, a chunky grab rail, an upswept exhaust muffler, and a teardrop-shaped fuel tank. Like a typical cafe racer, the clip-on handlebar is set very low and foot pegs positioned slightly rear, in order to lend a very sporty and committed riding posture.

Triumph Thruxton 400: Expected Specs

The Thruxton 400 will inherit its powertrain from the Speed 400, featuring the same 398cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. This engine, known for producing 39.5 bhp at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 37.5 Nm at 6,500 rpm in the Speed 400, is expected to undergo tuning adjustments by Triumph and Bajaj to optimize its performance for the Thruxton’s character. Transmission duties will be handled by a 6-speed gearbox equipped with a slip and assist clutch.

Building upon the Speed 400’s foundation, the Thruxton 400 is likely to share its underpinnings. This includes an inverted front fork in black, a rear monoshock, and single disc brakes at both ends, all enhanced by dual-channel ABS. The test mule spotted internationally showcased 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli Rosso tires. However, the Indian market version may feature locally sourced tires from brands like MRF or Apollo.

Triumph Thruxton 400: Expected Price & Launch

Triumph currently offers the Speed 400 at Rs 2.40 lakh and the Scrambler 400X at Rs 2.65 lakh (both ex-showroom). The upcoming Thruxton 400 is anticipated to be the flagship model of the 400cc range and is expected to command a premium price tag of around Rs 2.80 lakh (ex-showroom).

We expect Triumph to unveil this upcoming cafe racer sometime in the second half of 2025. Upon its launch, the Thruxton 400 is likely to remain without any direct competition in this segment.
