Triumph Motorcycles has introduced its most affordable model, the Speed T4, with an ex-showroom price of Rs 2.17 lakh. This launch signifies the British manufacturer’s foray into the highly successful segment dominated by the Royal Enfield Classic 350. Despite the Classic 350’s loyal fanbase and recent updates, the question arises: should this iconic brand worry about the new competitor? Let’s compare the Speed T4 to the 2024 Classic 350.

The newly introduced T4 is built on the platform of the made-in-India Triumph Speed 400, utilizing the identical 398.15 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, which delivers 30.6 bhp at 7000 rpm and 36 Nm of torque at 5000 rpm. These figures represent a reduction of 8.9 bhp and 3.5 Nm compared to the Speed 400. Triumph states that the T4 offers increased power in the low-to-mid range of the rev spectrum. It comes equipped with a 6-speed transmission that includes a slipper clutch.

The Classic 350 Classic gets the 349cc, air-oil-cooled J-series powertrain that produces 20.2 bhp at 6100 rpm and 27 Nm at 4000 rpm and is linked to a 5-speed gearbox.

The Speed T4 features a perimeter tubular steel frame and traditional 43 mm telescopic front forks with 140 mm of travel, along with a rear pre-load adjustable gas monoshock with 120 mm of travel. It is equipped with a 300 mm front disc and a 230 mm rear disc, complemented by dual-channel ABS. The Speed T4 rides on 17-inch alloy wheels shod with MRF Zapper tyres and boasts a seat height of 806 mm.

The Classic 350 gets a twin downtube spine frame with 41 mm telescopic front forks and 130 mm travel and 6-step adjustable twin shock absorbers in the rear with 90 mm travel. The Royal Enfield motorcycle comes standard with dual-channel ABS and 300 mm front disc and 270 mm rear disc. It is available in 18 and 19-inch wheels in both spoke or alloy wheels with a seat height of 805 mm.

The Speed T4 features an LED headlight with Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and an analogue speedometer complemented by an LCD multi-information display that includes a digital tachometer, odometer, gear position indicator, clock, and fuel gauge. Additionally, it is equipped with a USB port for device charging. The Speed T4 is available in three colours: Pearl Metallic White, Cocktail Wine Red, and Phantom Black.

The Classic 350 has LED headlamps, pilot lamps, and taillights for better illumination. The top model ups the ante with LED indicators, a Tripper navigation pod, and adjustable levers for clutch and brake to enhance rider comfort. Additionally, it boasts a Type-C charging port and an analogue speedometer, which includes a gear indicator within the LCD display for a seamless riding experience. The Classic 350 has five variants: Heritage, Heritage Premium, Signals, Dark, and Chrome. It comes in a variety of colour options: the Heritage offers Madras Red and Jodhpur Blue, Heritage Premium comes in Medallion Bronze, Signals are available in Commando Sand, Dark offers two options—Gun Grey and Stealth Black—and the top-of-the-line Chrome is available in Emerald Green.
