
Sales growth of two-wheelers in India is on constant rise as both motorcycles and scoter in the ongoing financial year is growing at 5.93 percent and 14.63% respectively. But the festive month of October 2017 saw a marginal decline in overall two-wheelers sales in India by 2.76%. Overall the Indian two-wheeler industry sold over 17.50 lakh units in the month of October 2017 as compared to a little over 18 lakh units sold in October 2017. The scooter space that has been dominating the two-wheeler sales for a while now sold 571,431 units and motorcycles accounted for 1,104,498 units last month. Mopeds sales stood at 75,037 units.
Top selling scooters and motorcycles in India:
October 2017 saw the scooter Honda Activa once again taking the top spot overtaking the sales of popular Hero Splendor. Domestic sales of Honda Activa registered 259,071 units last month as compared to Hero Spendors’ sales of 215,631 units. While the sales of Honda Activa in October registered a growth of 3.34 percent, Hero Splendor sales declined by about 15 percent when compared to domestic sales in October 2016.

Hero HF Deluxe sales gained momentum last month and continue to enjoy the third spot in the top 10 two-wheelers list. India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer Hero Motorcorp sold a total of 151,656 units last month. The only moped sold in India, TVS XL Super saw a sales decline as drop in its ranking too as Hero Passion sales zoomed up by selling 88,997 units.

TVS Jupiter is the only scooter after Honda Activa to be in top-10 list ranked at number five. TVS Jupiter has been a successful model for the Hosur based two-wheeler manufacturer and has seen an increase in its sales by almost 30 percent. TVS Jupiter scooter sales recorded a total of 81,326 units in the domestic market last month.
Launched earlier in 2017, Hero Glamour sales too spiked up as the company sold a total of 76,830 units with an increased demand in sales from rural markets. Honda CB Shine is the only motorcycle from HMSI in the top-10 list and sold a total of 71,133 units. Two motorcycles from Bajaj Auto, popular Bajaj Pulsar and Bajaj CT100 completes the top-10 two-wheelers list sold in India.
Talking about only motorcycle segment then the higher displacement capacity motorcycles, Royal Enfield Classic 350 and TVS Apache would also be ranked at bottom of the table (of only motorcycles and no scooters list).
The two-wheeler industry is expected to post a double digit growth by the end of this financial year. Going forward TVS Apache RR 310 will debut in December 2017 and expect a lot more action in the two-wheeler space at the upcoming 2018 Auto Expo.
