Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India first launched the Activa in 2001, since then the scooter has seen a massive demand in the two-wheeler market. Now the company has announced that they just rolled out 1,50,00,000th unit of the Activa from its Gujarat facility. HMSI introduced Activa with a 102 cc engine with CLIC mechanism and a metal body. In its first year, the company sold 55,000 units of the scooter. By 2005-06, the scooter was so popular in the market that the company had sold 10,00,000 of its units.
In 2009-10, Honda introduced Activa with 110cc engine along with new styling, CBS Equalizer and tubeless tyres. HMSI again upgraded the Activa in 2014 with a 125 cc engine along HET technology that provides 60 kmpl of fuel efficiency. By 2012-13, the company sold 50,00,000 units of the Activa and by 2014, Activa became the best selling scooter in India.
In FY 2016-17, Honda sold 2,759,835 units of Activa. This financial year also saw a ban on BSIII vehicles starting 1st April as India moves on BSIV emission norms, post which the company updated its Activa series, which includes Activa I, Activa 4G and Activa 125, with BSIV compliant engines and AHO.

“In 2009, it became industry’s first scooter to come with Combi-Brake System with Equalizer (nearly a decade before CBS is set to be mandatory in two-wheelers by 2019), a bigger and more powerful 110cc engine, convenience of tubeless tyres and completely new design. By 2013, the Activa’s heart got powered by the Honda Eco Technology (HET) which took its mileage in the league of commuter motorcycles. In 2015, the third generation Activa 3G became more stylish.
