Hero MotoCorp added a new Xtreme to its lineup in the form of Xtreme 250R. After making its debut at EICMA 2024 in Milan, Italy, the homegrown bikemaker launched its flagship naked streetfighter at the ongoing Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. This motorcycle goes straight up against other quarter-litre naked streetfighters, the most notable of those being KTM Duke 250.

The Duke 250 offers a slightly longer wheelbase and better ground clearance than Xtreme 250R. The Austrian is also lighter than its Indian counterpart. The Xtreme also offers a slightly taller saddle than the Duke. The KTM has a clear advantage as it gets a larger 15-litre fuel tank over the Hero’s 11.5-litre fuel tank.

Both motorcycles are based on a trellis frame but the underpinnings differ from each other. The Duke 250 gets a more premium suspension setup from WP Apex whereas the Hero gets in-house developed components. Moreover, the rear mono-shock on the KTM gets 10-step preload adjustability as compared to a 6-step preload adjustability for the Hero. Tyre profiles for both bikes are identical and braking hardware are also more or less the same.

Both bikes are well equipped in terms of features. The Xtreme 250R boasts an advanced lighting system featuring an LED projector headlight with integrated LED DRLs. Its digital TFT instrument cluster, enabled by Bluetooth, offers a range of functionalities including a lap timer, drag timer, and seamless integration with connected devices for navigation and music control.

KTM recently enhanced the Duke 250 with a 5-inch vibrant color TFT display and intuitive cube switches.The display provides essential information like rev counter, lap timer, selected gear, and incorporates a navigation system and headset pairing capabilities. Furthermore, the motorcycle now offers two ride modes – Track and Street – along with a dynamic SuperMoto mode for enhanced versatility.

The engine type and displacement on both Duke 250 and Xtreme 250R are almost identical but the former produces 1 horsepower more than the latter. That said, Hero claims a marginally quicker 0-60 kmph acceleration of 3.25 seconds, making it the fastest quarter-litre naked in India.

Both Hero Xtreme 250R and KTM Duke 250 are offered in a single fully-loaded variant. However, there is a huge difference in prices between the two bikes. The Xtreme 250R is priced at Rs 1.80 lakh whereas the Duke is tagged at Rs 2.25 lakh (both ex-showroom), a difference of Rs 45,000.
