Hero has launched two new maxi scooters in India, the Xoom 125 and the Xoom 160. While the smaller 125 aims to be the more stylish offering, the 160 is pure muscle. While one takes the sleeker, sportier approach, the other takes the bulky, muscular approach. So, if you’re in the market for the Xoom but confused about which one of the two to pick, here’s a quick guide that points out three big aspects of the Hero Xoom 160 and the Xoom 125.

Hero Xoom 160 vs 125 — Design

The Hero Xoom 160 features a large apron with a split headlight design, similar to what one would imagine a maxi scooter to look like. The floorboard is not like a traditional scooter but offers a mix of motorcycling as well, while a large up-swept exhaust adds to the muscular look of the Xoom 160. The large windscreen gives the Xoom 160 a more adventure-ready look.

The Hero Xoom 125 takes the opposite approach of being as sleek as possible. The scooter features a more angular front apron with the headlight in the centre. The floorboard is traditional and gets no wind protection like its larger sibling.

Hero Xoom 160 vs 125 — Hardware and features

On the hardware front, both scooters get a telescopic front fork. The Xoom 160 gets dual rear shocks while the 125 gets a single shock. Both scooters get 14-inch wheels, however, the larger Xoom 160 gets chunkier tyres compared to the Xoom 125. Both scooters get a disc brake at the front and drum brakes for the rear. That said, both scooters get a digital instrument console.

There are other crucial factors that should be considered as well, such as weight — the Xoom 160 weighs 142kg while the 125 weighs 121kg. The Xoom 160 also has a slightly taller seat height compared to the Xoom 125 (787mm vs 777mm). One other important aspect is storage — while Hero has not revealed details, the smaller Xoom 125 will have better storage compared to the Xoom 160.

Hero Xoom 160 vs 125 — Engine specifications

Both scooters are powered by a single-cylinder engine mated to a CVT gearbox — the similarities end there. The Hero Xoom 125 is powered by an air-cooled engine while the Xoom 160 is powered by a liquid-cooled engine. With the displacement advantage comes added power as well, and the Xoom 160 makes more power than traditional scooters.
