Hero MotoCorp is the latest two-wheeler manufacturer to bring down the prices of its scooters and motorcycles after the Government of India revamped the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates and abolished the compensation cess. Almost all vehicles, including cars and two-wheelers, will see a drop in prices after the new GST rates are implemented from 22 September 2025.
Speaking on the recent GST reform, Vikram Kasbekar, Chief Executive Officer, Hero MotoCorp, said “We welcome the Government’s next-gen GST 2.0 reforms, which will boost consumption, empower GDP growth, and accelerate India’s journey to a $ 5 trillion economy. In addition, more than half of the Indian households use two-wheelers for their daily needs, making it critical for mass mobility.”

New GST rates: Effect on two-wheeler prices
Two-wheelers, including motorcycles and scooters with engine capacities below 350cc, will now be taxed at 18 percent, down from the earlier 28 percent. This 10 percent reduction translates to a motorcycle previously priced at ₹1 lakh now costing around Rs 90,000 (ex-showroom).
In contrast, motorcycles with engines above 350cc will attract a flat 40 percent GST, up from the earlier 28 percent GST plus 3 percent cess — an effective increase of 9 percent. As a result, a motorcycle priced at Rs 2 lakh will now cost approximately Rs 2.18 lakh (ex-showroom). The revision will also raise road tax, further increasing ownership costs for mid- and high-capacity motorcycles.
