Hero MotoCorp launched the Harley Davidson X440 earlier in July this year. The American motorcycle brand quit independent operations in India a couple of years back and transferred all its operations– from manufacturing to sales and after sales in the hands of Hero MotoCorp.
Hero Hurikan 440 trademark filed
There have been murmurs of Hero working on a similar motorcycle based on the HD X440 for some time, however, there has been no concrete evidence regarding the same until now. The Indian two-wheeler brand has now filed a trademark for the name ‘Hurikan 440’.
The numeral in the suffix suggests that it could be the brand’s upcoming flagship model based on its American cousin. Expect the new motorcycle to borrow most of its cycle parts from the X440 in order to keep the price competitive. It could either be the case of a third Harley Davidson model from Hero MotoCorp in India or a rebranded X440 with the Hero badges.
For the uninitiated, Harley Davidson has already filed its second trademark in India with ‘Nightster 440’. Interestingly, Hurikan translates to cyclone or hurricane, and could possibly be used for a sportier model based on the 440 platform. That said, Hero is expected to provide a unique top hat to this motorcycle.
The Hurikan is expected to feature the same 440cc single-cylinder, oil-cooled, two-valve, SOHC engine that powers the X440. This motor kicks out 27 bhp and 38 Nm of peak torque and it is expected to carry the same tune as its existing application. The engine will be paired with a 5-speed gearbox.
No prototypes of this bike have been spotted testing until now. More details regarding the same could be expected in the coming few months when the motorcycle nears its launch. Recently it was announced that Hero will be commencing deliveries of the X440 from October 15 onwards, while a fresh round of bookings of the X440 will begin from October 16 with the updated prices.
