Bajaj is all set for its next launch, a big one for the global two-wheeler industry, the company’s first CNG-powered motorcycle. On the sidelines of the Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z launch, Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, confirmed that the company will launch its first CNG motorcycle on June 18.

The motorcycle has been spotted testing on several occasions, and the first of the CNG motorcycle will be a commuter. Specific details of the motorcycle are still under wraps, however, based on the spy pics, the motorcycle gets telescopic forks, a monoshock at the rear, and halogen lighting for the headlight and turn signals.

Over-regulation in the two-wheeler market

That said, Rajiv Bajaj also pointed towards the over-regulation of motorcycles, which has increased the prices of two-wheelers. The MD also noted that the government should consider reducing the GST on motorcycles, which stands at 28 percent. The two-wheeler industry has been seeking a reduction in GST to 18 percent.

At the event, Bajaj said, “This kind of dramatic change in price owes itself to many things, but most of all to what I have openly called over-regulation of the market.” He also pointed out to countries like Brazil and other ASEAN countries where the GST equivalent is between 8 and 14 percent.
