Yamaha has unveiled the 2025 YZF-R3 in the global market. This latest iteration of the sports bike represents more of an evolution than a revolution, retaining the same platform and engine. The question arises: is this merely a superficial makeover, akin to the ‘Emperor’s New Clothes,’ for the 2024 R3, or is there substance beyond the surface? Let’s delve into a comparison between the new model and the one currently available in India.
2025 Yamaha R3 Current vs New: Design
The new R3 is inspired by Yamaha’s new R design language which is seen in the new R9. The LED projector lights are as sleek as the Katana blades and have a sharp front nose. The R3 now has all LED lights including the indicators. The fairing is slimmer and more aerodynamic as compared to the R3 sold in India. The new R3 sports a lot more blacked-out elements like the front mudguard while the fairing is all blue in colour unlike the dual black-blue paint scheme and the upside-down front forks get a golden finish. The design of the blue alloy wheels remains the same but has a shorter exhaust. The new R3 is available in three colours — the signature Team Yamaha Blue, Lunar White with Nebula Blue and Matte Stealth Black.Â
2025 Yamaha R3 Current vs New: Features
This may surprise many but the current R3 lacks bare basic features but now the 2025 version is now equipped with a slip-and-assist clutch. This is the first time for the R3. The biggest update is the new LCD digital instrument cluster with a blue coloured background but still no navigation feature. Yamaha offers connected tech via Bluetooth connectivity by using the Y-Support app, but, sadly, it gets a USB-A port rather than a USB-C.
2025 Yamaha R3 Current vs New: Engine
The 2025 Yamaha R3 continues to be powered by the 321 cc liquid-cooled twin-cylinder engine that produces 41 bhp and 29.5 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with slip and clutch assist. It has a seat height of 780 mm, a wheelbase of 1379 mm, ground clearance of 160 mm and weighs 169 kg. In terms of hardware, it is equipped with 298 mm front disc brake and 220 mm disc at the rear and comes standard with a dual-channel ABS.
