India-bound 2018 Suzuki Jimny revealed: Here’s what this Gypsy replacement looks like and will offer

The long-awaited 2018 Suzuki Jimny after many disguised sightings has been finally spotted completely undisguised at a production facility in Japan a few days back. Images of the car have leaked on the web, courtesy Suzukifanclub and these are believed to be the catalogue images that have fully revealed the car. The new 2018 Suzuki Jimny will most likely replace the popular Gypsy in the Indian car market. The Jimny comes with rounded headlamp up front along with vertical grille that lends it a retro and desirable feel. The overall design is completely different in comparison to the Gypsy and the Jimny will get a major overhaul when compared to the former. The boxy design of the 2018 Suzuki Jimny offers an off-roader appeal that will make it likable by Indian buyers. Other highlights that deliver the Jimny an off-roader appeal are bumper mounted tail lamps along with a tail gate mounted spare wheel that is a common sight in old school SUVs.

The images also provide the first clear view of the 2018 Suzuki Jimny. One can see that the overall layout inside has been kept quite simple. The company has seemingly used hard touch plastic material in the cabin. The Jimny also gets a central touchscreen and other bits like gear lever and the flat bottom steering wheel bear resemblance to other Suzuki cars. The car is expected to come with features like climate control, airbags and wide seats.

The 2018 Suzuki Jimny will most likely get two engine options. First, a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that will reportedly churn out a power output of 92 hp. The car is also expected to get a 1.0-litre booster jet motor that should develop a maximum power of 112 hp. The SUV will most likely receive a five-speed manual transmission set up with an all-wheel drive.

Expect the 2018 Suzuki Jimny to make its India debut at the coming Auto Expo 2018 in February next year. There are a lot of hopes from the Jimny in India as the Gypsy has grown old and become outdated but the brand still holds a special place in the hearts of enthusiasts and former owners across the country. The Jimny then if badged as Gypsy can be sold at an aggressive price, it’s not hard to understand why Maruti Suzuki will have a tough time making enough of them to satiate market demand.
