A man from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, attempted to end his life by consuming poison, allegedly due to harassment by his wife and in-laws. He even recorded the tragic act on video, which has since gone viral.
In the viral video, Rahul accused his wife and in-laws of harassment, false dowry case, and extortion. He claimed he had no way out but to end his life. He alleged that despite seeking help from the police, his pleas went unheard. He also urged people to ensure he gets justice after he is gone.
Rahul is currently admitted to a hospital in Ghas Mandi and is undergoing treatment. He is reportedly out of danger.
According to the police, Rahul is married to Jyoti for a year now, who had filed a case against him for dowry demands. Authorities are investigating the matter and have yet to record Rahul’s statement. His wife will also be questioned as part of the inquiry.
What does the viral video show?
The now-viral video opens to show Rahul sitting in a room as he records his last video on his smartphone.
“Today is my last day. I don’t want to live anymore because my in-laws are harassing me,” Rahul says in the video.
He adds, “My father is around 80-85 years old, and my mother is between 60-65. My in-laws have filed false cases against me and also against my brother and his wife.”
He explains, “My wife has also falsely accused me to extort money. Where do I get the money from? How can I arrange such a huge amount? They are demanding ₹12 lakh. I don’t have the financial means to fight this case. I have even pleaded with the police, but they refuse to listen.”
“My wife has trapped me in this situation. She is not even agreeing to a divorce,” he further says and asks, “Where do I go? Whom should I turn to?” before pleading for help.
Rahul then states that he sees only one way out of this mess and that is to end his life.
A visibly emotional Rahul urges people to ensure he gets justice after he is gone.
“I don’t want to die, yet I am taking this extreme step because I see no other way out,” he says as he continues to plead for help.
He then takes out poison, shows it on camera, and consumes it.
Rahul also alleges that his in-laws torture him, and when he tries to file a complaint with the police, they take away his phone and beat him up.
Towards the end of the video, he empties a sachet of poison into a glass, stirs it with his index finger, and drinks it on camera.
