The ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, continues to draw millions of people from all over the world. This grand spiritual gathering has seen pilgrims and sadhus from India and abroad come together at the Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. Among the many saints attending this year’s event, Atma Prem Giri Maharaj has captured attention due to his remarkable physique, earning him the nickname “muscular baba.”
At a towering seven feet tall, draped in saffron robes and wearing a rudraksha mala, his presence at the Mela has sparked curiosity. Many see him as a modern-day incarnation of Lord Parshuram, a revered figure in Hindu mythology known for his strength and warrior-like qualities, believed to be an avatar of Lord Vishnu.
Originally from Russia, Atma Prem Giri embraced Sanatan Dharma 30 years ago and dedicated his life to promoting Hinduism. After leaving his career as a teacher, he chose to immerse himself in spiritual pursuits. He now resides in Nepal, where he continues his mission to spread Hindu teachings and is a member of the Juna Akhara, one of the prominent Hindu monastic orders.
A photo of the towering “muscular baba” shared on Instagram quickly went viral, with many expressing their admiration by chanting “Har Har Mahadev” in the comments.
Alongside Atma Prem Giri, another notable figure is Abhey Singh, a former aerospace engineer who has become known as “IIT Baba.” Hailing from Haryana, Singh left his scientific career to pursue a spiritual path.
Also gaining attention is Mahant Rajpuri Ji Maharaj, or the “Kabootar Wale Baba” (Pigeon Saint), who has spent nearly a decade with his unusual companion, a pigeon named Hari Puri, which peacefully perches on his head. For Mahant Rajpuri Ji, the pigeon symbolizes his philosophy of harmony and kindness toward all living beings.
