Billionaire Microsoft CEO Bill Gates has created quite a storm on the social media after pointing out the professions that will be safe from the AI intervention in the future. But what’s gaining more attention are his thoughts on the 5-day work week.
Thanks to the growing use of Artificial Intelligence, Gates has predicted that in 10 years time, humans may reduce their 5-day work week to just two days of work, giving rest to the everyday 9-5 grind.
Gates said that humans may not even be needed “for most things” and thus it is understandable and safe to assume that many workplaces will go through restructuring in the coming years, thus ending the everyday grind of office goers.
This isn’t the first time that Gates has spoken on the much debatable topic. When ChatGPT had launched in 2023, Gates had said that the society may eventually just shift to working 3-days a week and then the world will have to think how to spend all their leisure time.
What does ChatGPT think of two-day work week being a possibility?
Interestingly, we asked ChatGPT, if it’s possible to have 2-day work week concept in future. Here’s what it said:
“A two-day work week is an interesting concept, and while it seems unconventional right now, it’s possible in the future under certain conditions.”
The AI platform also suggested reasoning for the same which included automation, AI advancements, economic changes, cultural shifts, mental and physical health and globalisation and competition.
Here’s what it added further: “In summary, while a two-day work week isn’t likely in the immediate future, significant technological, cultural, and economic shifts could make it more realistic down the line, particularly in industries that can leverage automation, flexibility, and a more balanced approach to work and life.”
