IPL 2023 Live Score Update, Punjab Kings vs Gujarat Titans: Gujarat Titans are back to their winning ways. The defending champs defeated Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings in yet another thrilling match of ongoing Indian Premier League in Mohali on Thursday. Titans captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to send Punjab Kings to bat first. Despite it being a good batting surface, GT bowlers did an amazing job and restricted PBKS to 153 runs. No batter of the home team was able to read the ball and put up a solid innings. Apart from Matthew Short and a cameo by Shahrukh Khan, Punjab Kings batters didn’t do much. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan, who made unbeaten 99 in last match in Hyderabad, scored just 8 runs. Some good shots in the death overs helped PBKS to put a decent score on the board.
Chasing 154, Titans had a superb start. Shubhman Gill, who scored 67 off 49, slammed his second half-century of this season of IPL. Wriddhiman Saha was the breakthrough wicket for Punjab Kings. At one point, it seemed that Gill and David Miller will end the match quickly. But just like all matches that we have seen since Sunday, the Mohali match also turned out to be a last over thriller.
Indian Premier League, 2023
Punjab Kings
153/8 (20.0)
Gujarat Titans
154/4 (19.5)
Match Ended ( Day – Match 18 )
Gujarat Titans beat Punjab Kings by 6 wickets
Sam Curran was given the job and he did brought back Kings back into the game when he got Gill. Titans needed 4 runs from two balls. On strike was Rahul Tewatia. With a monk-like calmness, Tewatia did it again as he finished the game with a brilliant boundary.
Gujarat Titans won the match by six wickets. Out of four matches that the team has played, Titans have won three. For Punjab Kings, it is time for some introspection.
Here are key moments of PBKS vs GT match:
Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans have defeated Punjab Kings by 6 wickets!
This is IPL and nothing goes as usual! Sam Curran gets Shubhman Gill and suddenly Punjab Kings are back in the game!
Unless Punjab Kings pick up some key wickets in quick succession, it's Titans' game all the way. Shubhman Gill is in terrific form. With that monster six, he is simply unstoppable.
Nope, we don't want to give commentator's curse to Shubhman Gill. But with this second fifty of this season, Gill looks completely in control of the game. Along with David Miller, it seems that Titans will finish it early and rather comfortably.
Some coincidence there! PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan walked back after making 8 runs and Hardik Pandya, Titans captain is also back to pavilion after making 8 runs.
GT reach century. Titans physio rushed to the pitch as Pandya touched his helmet. But all is well and Pandya is playing.
Sai made 19 off 20 but couldn't stay for long. He couldn't control the tricky delivery by Arshdeep Singh. Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya is here to bat and he looks to finish the match early.
That wicket of Wriddiman Saha was the 100th one for Kasigo Rabada. With this, he has become the fastest to get 100 runs in the history of the Indian Premier League. It took him just 64 matches to reach the milestone. before this, Lasith Malinga reached this landmark after 70 games.
If we look at the current run rate, that's 7.25 whereas the required run rate in 7.15. This slight edge in terms of run rate along with wickets in hand has put Titans in control. At this point, Punjab Kings were three down whereas Titans have lost just one wicket so far.
GT had a fiery start as Shubhman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha got the momentum from the word go. The openers were able to get 48 without any loss very quickly. Then Kasigo Rabada walked in and got the much-needed breakthrough wicket for Punjab Kings. This ended the first wicket partnership between Gill and Saha. Saha's wicket is the 100th IPL wicket for Rabada.
Is it dinner time or SRK time, whatever the reason maybe, over 1.1 crore people are watching the GT vs PBKS match
Kings' batters have not been able to do much on this track in Mohali. Can Shahrukh Khan do a wonder in death overs?
Making his debut for Gujarat Titans today, Mohit Sharma picks up the wicket of Jitesh Sharma. Sam Curran, the most expensive overseas player, is here to bat.
Even though Sharma and Rajapaksa are looking steady at the moment, the current run rate has gone down significantly. Now the projected score is 151.
IF we go by the scoreboard, yes, Gujarat Titans look completely in control of the game. Punjab Kings are three down with their skipper Shikhar Dhawan out for 8. Matthew Short gone. Jitesh Sharma, who had a key cameo in Guwahati win of PBKS, is trying to settle down to ease the pressure.
Matthew Short, who was batting so beautifully, has been clean bowled by superb Rashid Khan. It has been quite a pattern for Pandya to introduce Khan after the powerplay and Khan didn't disappoint. It's getting worrisome for Kings now
In the last match, Shikhar Dhawan single-handedly dragged PBKS total in Hyderabad. He remained 99 not out. But today, though he started off well, things didn't go as he wanted. Now, it is on the shoulders of Rajapaksa and Short to accelerate the momentum and get over the powerplay losses.
Gujarat Titans lost a review and on the next ball, Josh Little got the biggest wicket for Titans! Shikhar Dhawan goes cheap, just 8 runs off 8 balls. Rajapaksa has come to bat
PBKS skipper is simply unstoppable in Mohali. After Little's bit expensive over, Pandya has brought back Md Shami to halt Dhawan's pace.
Md Shami gets Prabhisimran Singh in the second ball of the match! Big wicket for Gujarat Titans. It was an easy catch for Rashid Khan. Short has come to bat.
Md Shami is bowling the first over. Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh open for PBKS.
Prabhsimran Singh, Shikhar Dhawan(c), Matthew Short, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Jitesh Sharma(w), Sam Curran, Shahrukh Khan, Harpreet Brar, Kagiso Rabada, Rishi Dhawan, Arshdeep Singh
Wriddhiman Saha(w), Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Hardik Pandya(c), David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Alzarri Joseph, Mohammed Shami, Mohit Sharma, Joshua Little
This is the second time that Shikhar Dhawan has lost a toss and has been asked to bat first. Last time in Hyderabad also, Punjab Kings were batting first. But Dhawan and co will have to forget the past and move on.
Hardik Pandya is fit and fine and he returns as GT skipper for today's match. We can see Shikhar Dhawan also.
Will the English star make a grand return to playing XI of PBKS? We are also waiting to know. In case, Livingstone plays, in all likelihood, Sikandar Raza may have to sit out today.
Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans have faced each other twice in the last edition of IPL. While PBKS won one match, GT emerged as winner in another. So, no favorites for us. Game can go any way!
