Two centurions in Jaipur – Jos Buttler and Virat Kohli. Both scored a sensational 100 for their teams. If one got his form back in his 100th IPL game, the other broke the Jaipur Jinx to score personal best in this season. But what sets apart the two centuries – the win at the end. Buttler’s 100 got four in four for Rajasthan Royals as they defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 19th match of Tata IPL 2024 in Jaipur on Saturday. Kohli’s 113 went in vain as RR’s stormy second wicket partnership between Buttler and RR skipper Sanju Samson hammered bowlers with no luck in sight.
There were several records made and broken in Jaipur. While Kohli became the first batsman to cross the 7,500 runs in the Indian Premier League, the partnership of Samson-Buttler posted 148 runs, the highest this season has seen so far. Before this, Faf Du Plessis and Kohli had put the season’s highest stand – 125 during their innings.
Winning toss, RR decided to field first. RCB made a competitive total of 183. Chasing the target of 184, RR suffered loss on the very second ball when Yashaswi Jaiswal got out. But after that, Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson frustrated the RCB bowlers with no one able to break the second wicket stand.
Samson concluded his innings with an impressive 69 runs off 42 deliveries, including eight boundaries and two sixes. With this victory, Rajasthan Royals are on the top of the IPL table with eight points, edging past Kolkata Knight Riders based on net run-rate.
