India vs England Highlights, 5th T20I: India seal T20I series 4-1 as Abhishek Sharma shines with bat and ball

“It’s always about being a little instinctive on the ground, whoever you feel might do something, throw them the ball. This is what we’ve sat down and spoken about, what brand of cricket we want to play, and we want to keep sticking to it. It’s a high-risk, high-reward game, but at the end of the day we’re getting the results. [On Abhishek:] I’m very happy for his family as well, they must have enjoyed his innings. It was great. [On Varun:] He’s been relentlessly working hard with our fielding coach Dilip sir, whenever he gets time in our practice sessions. Today he put his hand up and said he wants to field in the outfield, and you saw the results. He’s a process-oriented man [with the ball], always wants to work on something new.”

“I’m happy that the fielding also drew some applause, and the team has been emphasising on improving the fielding standards, and I’ve been working hard with the fielding coach Mr. Dilip. This is the best I’ve bowled, but lot of scope to improve, there were a few [bad] balls, I should not have bowled them. It was just the matter of bowling the right ball at the right time, that’s what I was working on. This is very special, I would like to dedicate it to my son and my wife and my parents. I’d like to thank Surya and GG (Gautam Gambhir) for backing me as well.”

“It’s a special one, coming for the country, always a great feeling. When I see it’s my day, I always try to go from the first ball. And the way the coach and the captain have treated me from the first day. They’ve always wanted this intent, they’ve always backed me. When the opponents are bowling 140, 150-plus, you have to be ready a little earlier. Just react to the ball and play my shots. When you’re hitting a world-class bowler over the covers [off Archer], it’s aways great, but I really liked the shots against Adil Rashid as well. Probably he [mentor Yuvraj Singh] should be happy today. He’s always wanted me to bat into the 15th, 20th over, and I’ve tried to implement that.”

“We’re disappointed to lose the series, but we’ve done some things well and some things we want to improve on. We want to keep committing to this style of cricket and execute better. India are a fantastic side, especially at home, and we’re better for the experience, the experience of great crowds like this at the Wankhede. Shivam Dube says- “It feels great when you contribute as an all-rounder for the team. I have been doing that since a long time, so I was really excited, I knew I was going to bowl. I gave the team what they wanted. The wicket was amazing for batting, but I enjoyed both (batting and bowling.) The wicket was good, so I tried to play my shots and went hard against their bowlers. I am working with our new coach – Morne Morkel, I am working on all the angles and that helped my today.”

India won four out of five T20Is played in the five-game series. The only game England could win was the Rajkot match. India dominated the visitors. Now all eyes will be on ODIs starting from February 6.

Things are almost over for England as Mohd Shami got 9th and 10th wicket for India. Shami got Adil Rashid for 6(6). England campaign is totally derailed now as the visitors have lost 7 wickets for just 38 runs in last 5 overs. India won the series 4-1.

England‘s run chase campaign collapses as they lose 8th wicket. Shivam Dube gets his second. The visitors still need 158 runs to win. Indians are in full domination!

Abhishek Sharma’s superb all-round performance continues even with his bowling. He took two wickets- Carse and Overton gone! England are 7 down.

England lost the only hope as Phil Salt departed just after finishing his fifty. Shivam Dube got his wicket. Salt was looking good with the bat and he ended up hitting 55 off 23 balls.

Phil Salt is the only hope for English run chase as the English opener is connecting the ball well and getting boundaries at regular intervals. He is 55* off 22 balls

India‘s Varun Chakravarthy gets his second wicket in form of Liam Livingston goes for 9 off 5 balls. England lose their 4 in 7th over. The visitors still need 173.

Ravi Bishnoi sends Harry Brook back to pavilion as England lose their third wicket. Chasing a mammoth 248, England have lost wickets in quick succession.

India‘s leading wicket-taker in this series Varun Chakravarthy provided India the much-needed breakthrough as he got England skipper Jos Buttler for just 7 runs. England lost their second wicket.

Chasing 248, England opener Phil Salt is attacking Indian bowlers as he has made 35 off 16 balls so far hitting four 4s and two sixes. England need to cement crucial partnerships from here on to reach near the target.

FYI- The 24-year-old Abhishek looked set to break Rohit Sharma’s record for the fastest T20I hundred (35 balls) for an Indian batter but eventually achieved it in 37 balls for the second fastest three-figure knock, having already recorded the second quickest fifty off 17 balls for the country.

England opener Phil Salt started off the innings with an attacking display of cricket as he hit 17 runs off the first over. Shami bowled the opening over.

With Abhishek Sharma’s record-setting knock of 135 off just 54 balls, India managed to reach close to 250. India ended at 247/9. England will have to put in extraordinary efforts to reach the target. India are eyeing 4-1 while the visitors will try to make the series 3-2.
