High-security loo!
In the ‘A’ wing of Shastri Bhawan, which hosts the ministry of petroleum and natural gas, exists a room between numbers 211 and 213 without a name-plate. But it has a high security lock that can be accessed by a passcode or a card, much like in Bond movies. Only officials of the rank of joint secretaries and above are seen accessing the unnamed room. When a visitor asked an office boy what’s behind the high security door, the answer was: Saheeb logo ka toilet (It’s the officers’ toilet). See, how Swachh Bharat and Digital India merge, at taxpayers’ expense, in babudom!
A Mangalurian brand
At last, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) has forayed into petrochemicals, with its brand new 4.4 lakh tpa polypropylene unit now up and running. In mid-June, the PSU dispatched its first consignment of polypropylene pearls, branded as ‘Mangpol.’ MRPL’s managing director H Kumar boasts of revenue additions of R3,000 crore to R4,000 crore from this new stream of business. Kumar, who joined from HPCL last August, has a fascination for branding and marketing, and is lauded for giving HPCL retail outlets a new look and logo. Perhaps, Mangalurians can now be proud of a product named after their city.
