In the 2009 elections, the total number of electors in Worli was 2,83,526, including 1,61,231 males and 1,22,295 females.

The counting of votes has begun across all 288 Assembly constituencies in Maharashtra. The state went to the polls in a single phase on November 20, and the results will be announced today.

In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, the BJP emerged as the single largest party, securing 105 out of the 288 seats. The undivided Shiv Sena won 56 seats, while the Congress and NCP garnered 44 and 54 seats, respectively. Despite having a clear majority, the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance was unable to form the government due to a disagreement over the Chief Minister’s post, leading to a split in the alliance.

This situation paved the way for the formation of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. However, the Uddhav Thackeray-led government collapsed in June 2022 after a rebellion led by Eknath Shinde against the Shiv Sena, resulting in an unprecedented split within the party. In July 2023, Ajit Pawar broke away from his uncle, Sharad Pawar, causing a split in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Ajit Pawar then joined the ruling Mahayuti alliance, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. In the 2024 elections, the Mahayuti alliance—comprising the BJP, Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP—is facing off against the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which includes the Congress, NCP (SP), and Shiv Sena (UBT).

A total of 10 candidates contested the Worli Assembly seat in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly election. The candidates were: Aditya Thackeray (Shiv Sena – Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), Amol Anand Nikalje (Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi), Amool Shivaji Rokade (Republican Sena), Bhagwan Babasaheb Nagargoje (Samata Party), Bhimrao Namdev Sawant (Ambedkarite Party of India), Milind Deora (Shiv Sena), Mohammad Irshad Rafatullah Shaikh (Independent), Rizwanur Rehman Qadri (Apni Prajahit Party), Sandeep Sudhakar Deshpande (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena), and Suresh Kumar Mishrilal Gautam (Bahujan Samaj Party).

In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Aaditya Uddhav Thackeray of Shiv Sena (SS) won this seat, defeating Adv. (Dr.) Suresh Mane of the NCP by a margin of 67,182 votes, which accounted for 52.05% of the total votes cast. Shiv Sena secured a significant vote share of 69.14% in the constituency.

In the 2014 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Sunil Govind Shinde of Shiv Sena claimed victory in this seat, defeating Ahir Sachin Mohan of the NCP by a margin of 23,012 votes, or 15.52% of the total votes cast. Shiv Sena’s vote share in 2014 was 40.89%.

In the 2009 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Ahir Sachin Mohan of the NCP won the seat, defeating Ashish Chemburkar of Shiv Sena by a margin of 5,294 votes, which was 3.82% of the total votes cast. The NCP’s vote share in 2009 stood at 37.83%.

The vote counting for all 288 assembly constituencies in Maharashtra, including the 12 constituencies in Nagpur district, will begin at 8 am.

Aaditya Thackeray, the son of Uddhav Thackeray, is the current MLA representing Worli. The seat has seen a fierce three-way battle involving Aaditya Thackeray, Rajya Sabha MP Milind Deora from the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and Sandeep Deshpande from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). In 2014, Worli had 2,65,091 voters, with 1,49,067 males and 1,16,024 females. There were 467 valid postal votes and 91 service voters (73 men and 18 women).

Ten candidates are in the fray for the Worli Assembly seat in the upcoming elections. Aaditya Uddhav Thackeray has been fielded by Shiv Sena (UBT), while the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) has nominated Milind Murli Deora to challenge him. Sandeep Sudhakar Deshpande is the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s candidate, and the Bahujan Samaj Party has put forward Suresh Kumar Mishrilal Gautam.
