Uttar Pradesh Nikay Chunav Results 2023 Highlights News Updates: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swept the Uttar Pradesh urban local body polls winning the Mayoral seats of all 17 municipal corporations besides 90 posts of municipality chairman and over 600 wards. Flanked by Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak at a press conference at the BJP headquarters, Adityanath said the BJP has won all 17 municipal corporations for the first time. “In all 17 municipal corporations, voters have reposed faith in BJP,” he said. The chief minister said in the elections conducted in 199 out of the 200 municipal councils, BJP won double the seats won by it in 2017, when it got 60.
Counting of votes to decide the fate of candidates for 14,864 posts across 760 Urbal Local Bodies (ULBs) in UP started at 8 AM today. The civic body polls in the state was being seen as a test of popularity for the ruling Adityanath-led BJP government and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The UP municipal elections, held in two phases on May 4 and 11, has a total of 4.32 crore voters to elect 1,420 corporators to Municipal Corporations and 5,327 members to Nagar Panchayats and 7,177 members to Nagar Palikar Parishads. While the voter turnout was recorded at 52 per cent in phase 1, the second phase of voting saw the participation of over 50 per cent.

The counting of votes has started at three places in the Kaushambi district from 8 am. Counting centres have been set up at Bharwari, Osa, Mithepur Sayara. As many as 96 tables have been set up for the counting of votes for the post of president.

The counting of votes will start at 8 am for Firozabad Municipal Election 2023. The fate of 73 candidates for the post of president and 1033 councillors will be decided today. As per UP State Election Commission, the counting of votes will be done on 640 tables for the president and councillor of the civic body. The result of the first round will come out around 11 am. There are 11 candidates for the post of mayor and 491 candidates for the post of councillor in the municipal corporation.
In 2017, UP municipal polls, there were 16 municipal corporations. In these, the BJP won the mayoral seats of Lucknow, Varanasi, Agra, Mathura, Firozabad, Moradabad, Saharanpur, Jhansi, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Ghaziabad, Shahjahanpur, Bareilly, Kanpur and Ayodhya. Whereas in Aligarh and Meerut, the mayor of BSP had won. This time, Shahjahanpur district is going to get its first mayor.
Out of 17 municipal corporations, Lucknow, Kanpur and Ghaziabad were reserved for general category women. In Shahjahanpur and Firozabad, seats were reserved for OBC women while Adara was reserved for SC women.
